After a week of drawing each other, my AP Drawing students are using their figures to create a final piece for their Breadth Section of the exam. After editing our figures down to just a handful and choosing a figure for the focal point, they are overlapping the figures to create a foreground, mid ground and background. Since we varied the size of figures we were drawing, we are creating a sense of space while paying careful attention to the negative space around the figures. Some students to fill every nook and cranny but we pulled it back a bit and started to really look at the shape of figures and how they interacted and created these pockets of space that can be highlighted later with color. And that is the next step... adjusting line quality, blocking in pops of color to bounce the eye throughout the composition and balancing the amount of black and white. Check back next week!
