Last week, Drawing & Painting II students completed their observational skull drawings. Working with a strong light source and keen observational drawing skills, students focused on the use of contrast and values to create a realistic drawing using white pencil. Throughout the project students were paying close attention to the subtle changes in value, as well as, the transitions between the values. At first it was hard to switch the way we create value so we worked in our journals to practice making value scales using the white pencil on black paper. In the end, I think that my students are much better observers and will carry these skills into our next project.
