Today we had an artist come in and spend the day with our AP students. Michelle Ward is an incredible mixed media artist who lives in Piscataway. She began by introducing students to collgraph prints using gelli plates. It was exciting to see how students jumped right in and began to think about color, texture and printing. Then Michelle shared a variety of stencil and texture techniques using the gelli plates and different paper surfaces. It was amazing, as each student had made at least 20 prints. Using these prints students made hand sewn books and collages. Michelle worked with each and every student individually and made it an incredible experience for all. Special thanks to the Piscataway high school PTSO who made this workshop possible with a teacher grant and Mrs. Lentini-Pombrio who applied for the grant and had the idea for this great opportunity.
"The arts celebrate multiple perspectives. One of their large lessons is that there are many ways to see and interpret the world."
