Drawing & Painting I are working on OP Art! Using contrasting colors and patterns they had a choice of 3 different styles of OP Art to pick from. However, each project reinforces the use of value, contrast and color theory. They also could chose their medium and approach to completing the project. They should be done in a couple more periods.
This year my students have really been into coloring mandala designs. When they have a few minutes they will color here and there. I came across this cool quilt design that looked a lot like a mandala. Using the radial pattern we worked as a group to complete a large mandala project. Each student created a quarter of circle, incorporating five points across the top of their curved lined. There were no limits on color, technique or style. In the end it was pretty cool and fun to watch it come together slowly. However, if I were to do it again I might try other shapes, maybe limit color and encourage more overlapping of pattern.
